Additional Information
Table King Squash should be harvested before a hard frost. Fruit is ripe if your thumbnail doesn't mark the skin and the stem is dry and brown. It is often easy enough to snap the fruit from the vine. We use a sharp knife to cut the stem about 5cm (2”) from the fruit. This helps preserve moisture loss from the squash. Cure the squash in the sun or a dry location until stem shrivels. Do not carry the fruit by the stem either as it could easily snap off. Do not wash squash that you intend to put up for storage. |
