Solanum lycopersicum
Lot# TM35177
The Watermelon Beefsteak tomato is an old heirloom from the 1800’s. It is a very impressive tomato. Tomatoes are a soft pink – like the color of a Crimson Sweet watermelon’s flesh. The big beefsteak tomatoes can easily achieve (454 g - 0.9 kg) 1-2 pounds each. Want a tomato sandwich anyone? One slice will do!! They are slightly scalloped on top with an oblong shape. Sizes can vary significantly but it is safe to say that they get very large and they are prolific. Nice mild sweet tomato flavor. Watermelon Beefsteak tomatoes grow on indeterminate vines with regular leaves and can grow as high as 1.5 m (4-5 ft.) tall. Staking and tying will be required due to the sheer volume of tomatoes that will be produced.

Additional Information:
Open pollinated-untreated seeds. Harvest fruit when they are the desired size, colour and firmness. In general, perfectly ripe tomatoes show deep color but still feel firm when gently squeezed. Tomatoes do continue to ripen after being picked. Gently grab and twist until the tomato pulls free from the stem, or use a pair of clippers. Cut stems close to fruits. Always store picked tomatoes at room temperature indoors, or in a shady place outside. Never refrigerate tomatoes, because temperatures below 12.8° C (55° F) cause flavor compounds to break down. |
