Approximately 4 - 5seeds per gram. Phaseolus vulgaris Lot#BD23201 The Blue Lake Pole Bean produces heavy yields of meaty but very tender, medium size, 18 cm (7") straight, dark green pods. Good used fresh but renowned for their canning and freezing qualities. If you had but one bean to grow, this should be the one. These beans are perfect for growing on fences or poles and can reach a height of 1.2-2.4m (4-8 feet) tall. Climbs freely on a vine and produces quickly. Will continue to grow until frost.
Direct sow from end of April to June 15th. The growth requirements for pole beans are mostly the same as bush beans. The main difference is pole beans need to be grown on trellises, open weave fencing, nylon bean netting strung between supports, or on bamboo or pole teepees. Sow seeds 2-5cm (1-1½") deep, 10-15cm (4-6") apart. Make sure irrigation supplements rainfall during drier weather.
Soil Conditions: Well worked rich, loose and well-drained soil. Ideal pH: 5.5-6.8
Additional Information Avoid planting in soil that stays consistently damp or wet. Beans typically need warm soil of 65° or higher. Grows best in full sun. Regular harvesting of the young pods will ensure a greater yield.
