Approximately 55 - 65 seeds per gram Beta vulgaris Lot# BE23503 Chioggia is a striking and colorful Italian heirloom beet variety that has been grown in home gardens since at least the 1840's. The beets have a light red, flattened globe-shaped root with colorful interior rings of alternating pink and white. When roots average around 5 cm (2") diameter in size, it is a good time to harvest. They have a good old fashioned sweet flavour and can be baked whole and or sliced just before serving.

You can soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing as this will aid in germination, or direct sow at a depth of 5-12mm (¼ - ½”). Space out rows 35-45cm (14-18”) apart. When beets are about 5cm (2”) high, thin to one plant every 5-12cm (2-5”). Weed as required until beets have the advantage.
