Tomato - Dark Vintage Wine (IND)
Approximately 250-380 seeds per gram.
Vintage Wine…but a darker version. It has dark chocolate with ubiquitous pastel-hues. It is an indeterminate variety that can grow to 2m (78-80") tall. Plants foliage is potato-leaved. It produces strong vines that need pruning and tying. This Vintage Wine really looks like an heirloom tomato, but is actually a relatively recent introduction from Europe. Tomatoes are tasty, very nice, about .5 Kg (1 lb) each. Tomatoes are a unique pale chocolate pink, with beautiful distinctive stripes. This is a late season variety, very similar to Brandywine. Harvest green if you have approaching frost, they will ripen over time. Not sure if it is true to its genetics but I like it.
Open pollinated-untreated seeds. Harvest fruit when they are the desired size, color and firmness. In general, perfectly ripe tomatoes show deep color but still feel firm when gently squeezed. Tomatoes do continue to ripen after being picked. Gently grab and twist until the tomato pulls free from the stem, or use a pair of clippers. Cut stems close to fruits. Always store picked tomatoes at room temperature indoors, or in a shady place outside. Never refrigerate tomatoes, because temperatures below 12.8° C (55° F) cause flavor compounds to break down.
