Approximately 3seeds per gram. Phaseolus vulgaris LOT#BB23115 The Blue Jay bush bean is a fairly early producer of green pods streaked with purple. A very productive snap bean with excellent flavour. The seed has a unique coloring of navy blue mottled with beige markings. On average, there are 7seeds per pod. 60 days fresh 90 days for dry beans.
Try to plant during a warm, dry spell. Soil must be warm - if it is not warm enough, seeds will rot. Beans require a minimum soil temperature of 16°C (60°F) and a maximum of 24°C (75°F). Seeds will not germinate properly if planted too deeply or too early in cold wet ground. Sow seeds 2.5cm (1") deep, 5-8cm (2-3") apart, in rows 45-60cm (18-24") apart. Never sow white seeded beans too early. White bean seeds transmit water too fast, cracking the cotyledons which reduces seed vigor and germination whereas darker coloured bean seeds can regulate water uptake in cool, wet soils, preventing the cracking of the cotyledons.
Soil Conditions: Well worked rich, loose and well-drained soil. Ideal pH: 5.5-6.8
Additional Information Avoid planting in soil that stays consistently damp or wet. Beans typically need warm soil of 65° or higher. Grows best in full sun. Regular harvesting of the young pods will ensure a greater yield.
